LexAnon

How it works

Real legal documents. Controlled AI interaction.

LexAnon sits between confidential legal work and the AI models your teams already use—so privilege and policy stay with the organisation.

  1. 01

    Open or select a document

Start with an agreement, pleading, opinion, correspondence file or other legal document.

    Lawyer action

Chooses a .docx, .txt, .pdf or .doc from the LexAnon app—or attaches a file on an allowlisted AI chat site.

    System action

The document is sent only to your organisation’s LexAnon server inside your network.

  2. 02

    Detect sensitive information

LexAnon identifies personal data, client information, company names, financial details, matter references and other protected content.

    Lawyer action

Reviews detections; can set categories, exclusions, placeholder language and optional free-text instructions.

    System action

Pattern rules plus an optional local LLM find entities; results are never silently passed off as full AI analysis if the model fails.

  3. 03

    Protect and transform

Sensitive information is replaced with secure, reversible placeholders while preserving the structure and legal meaning of the document.

    Lawyer action

Edits linked replacements in review, chooses placeholder / mask / delete, then applies.

    System action

The server validates spans against the stored analysis, applies consistent replacements and keeps formatting where the format allows.

  4. 04

    Use any AI model

The protected document can be processed by a public, private or locally deployed AI model.

    Lawyer action

Uploads or pastes the protected document into ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, a private model or a local tool.

    System action

Only the transformed document leaves LexAnon—not the encrypted restore mapping.

  5. 05

    Restore the result

LexAnon restores protected information after the AI task is completed.

    Lawyer action

Uploads the returned document, selects the job and reviews every substitution (including fuzzy matches).

    System action

Restore uses the server-side encrypted mapping only; the client never invents original values.

  6. 06

    Record the workflow

Actions can be logged to support internal governance, compliance and audit requirements.

    Lawyer action

Sees analysis warnings and post-anonymisation verification status in the product UI.

    System action

Analyse, apply and restore actions are audited on the server; a second AI pass can check the anonymised output when enabled.

What the AI sees

Before — confidential source

Agreement between Acme Holdings LLC and John Smith. Contact john.smith@acme-corp.com for notices.

After — protected for AI

Agreement between [COMPANY_1] and [NAME_1]. Contact [EMAIL_1] for notices.

Structure and legal meaning stay intact. Originals remain in the encrypted server vault for reviewed restore—not in the file you send to AI.

Works with the models you choose

After protection, lawyers can use ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, private enterprise models or locally hosted models. LexAnon does not lock you to a single provider—the control layer stays with your organisation when the model layer changes.

On known AI chat sites, the Chrome extension can pause an upload and offer to anonymise first. Attaching the original remains an explicit, labelled choice.
